How do I send money to another account?

There are several ways to send money:

Transfer money between your Nationwide accounts
Send money abroad, by making an international payment
Set up a regular payment with a standing order
Send payments over £10,000, with a CHAPS payment.

Send up to £10,000

You can send up to £10,000 from your current account using the faster payment service. It’s free, and you can send 5 payments of up to £10,000 in one day.

Timings

  • You can set the payment to leave your account straightaway, or on a future date.
  • Once it leaves your account, the funds should arrive almost immediately (but can take up to 2 hours).

Note:

If you want a future dated payment to leave your account tomorrow, it must be set it up by 10pm today. After 10pm, the payment will take an extra day.

If you’re paying someone new

  • Take a second to protect yourself from fraud. Remember, if you willingly send money to someone we can’t always get it back for you.
  • You’ll need a card reader and the payee’s account number and sort code.
  • You’ll have to create a payment reference.

Note:

The payment reference will be used each time you pay that payee. You can change an existing payment reference in the Internet Bank, or by speaking to us.
