Which account do you want to close?

If you're registered for internet banking

  1. Log in to the Internet Bank
  2. Select 'View accounts'
  3. Choose the account you want to close
  4. Select 'Other account services' (on the left side of your screen)
  5. Select 'Close account'
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions

Just so you know, certain accounts can't be closed online, so we may ask you to pop into branch.

Don't have internet banking?

Not to worry, you can close your account by visiting us in branch. Just remember to bring proof of identify, as well as any account cards, passbooks and certificates.

If you prefer, you can register for internet banking - it's easy and only takes 5 minutes. Please note that some accounts can’t be closed online, so we may ask you to pop into branch.

Is your ISA a Help to Buy: ISA?

Close a Help to Buy: ISA

You can close a Help to Buy: ISA online or in branch. Once closed, and as long as you're eligible, you have 12 months to claim the government bonus.

Close ISA and move money to a new Nationwide ISA

You can close your current Nationwide ISA account at the same time as opening a new Nationwide ISA account.

Close ISA and move money to another Nationwide account

Arrange an ISA transfer

You'll need to arrange an ISA transfer with your new ISA manager. They'll arrange the account closure as part of the transfer.

Note:

If you withdraw the money instead of requesting an ISA transfer, your money will lose its tax-free status.

If your new ISA manager asks for your Nationwide ISA details, use these:

  • Account number: 33333334
  • Sort code: 070093
  • Your roll/reference number

Your roll/reference number looks like this: 1234/123456789. You can find it:

  • printed on the inside cover of your passbook
  • when you log in to the Internet Bank
  • or for Fixed Rate ISAs, on the front of the certificate you received when you opened your account.

Do you have a Nationwide current account?

Close ISA and move money to a Nationwide current account

First you'll need to close your ISA and move the money into your Nationwide current account. You can then move the money to the account you have with another manager.

Closing your ISA and moving your money to a non-ISA account means it will lose its tax-free status.

You'll need to close your ISA in a Nationwide branch.

Remember to bring some ID and your Nationwide cash ISA account number.

Any money in your ISA will be sent to your registered address by cheque.

Close your Instant or Limited Access ISA

What are my options on Maturity?

Do you want to close your bond early or is it about to mature?

If you close your account early, you'll have to pay an early access charge. The amount you pay will depend on the term of your Fixed Rate Bond. For more information, just send us a secure message in the Internet Bank, or pop into branch.
