What is porting?

Porting is where you take your existing Nationwide mortgage product with you to your new property.
Porting means you don’t need to worry about finding a new mortgage product as you can take your current one with you (subject to acceptance).

Am I eligible to port my mortgage?

Most of our mortgages are portable. You can find information on porting in your mortgage offer documents, or call us on 0800 171 23 70.

If you have a Lifetime mortgage and want to port please get in touch with us on 0800 464 0813.

We offer porting as an advised service. This means you'll need to apply with one of our Mortgage Consultants over the phone or in branch. It's not currently possible to port your mortgage online.

How can I port my mortgage?

Step 1

Check your mortgage offer or call us on 0800 30 20 11 to make sure you have the porting feature.

Step 2

Decide how much you need to borrow to buy your new home; this doesn’t have to be the same amount as your existing mortgage, it could be more or less.

Step 3

Check if you’ll need to pay an Early Repayment Charge (ERC). Generally ERCs apply if you only port some of your mortgage, or if there’s a delay between the sale of your existing property and the purchase of your new one.

Step 4

Make an appointment with a Mortgage Consultant by calling us on 0800 171 23 70 or visiting us in branch. Lines are open Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm and Saturday 9am to 5pm. Just like a new application we’ll assess affordability, eligibility and the suitability of your new property. Your Mortgage Consultant will offer advice to help you get the right mortgage product for you.
