Nationwide Fairer Futures

Nationwide Fairer Futures is about helping those who have been dealt an unfair hand.

We're working with partners to tackle 3 of the biggest issues we see in society today:

  • youth homelessness alongside Centrepoint.
  • families living in poverty alongside Action for Children.
  • people living with dementia alongside Dementia UK.

The Nationwide Foundation

Each year 25% of our funding goes to the Nationwide Foundation.

This independent charity works to create lasting change to tackle disadvantage in the UK. Its vision is for everyone to have a decent home that they can afford.

Understand the difference we make

In 2007 our members voted to donate at least 1% of our pre-tax profits to charities.

Our social impact report shows how we spent our charitable donations in the previous year. In the 2023/24 financial year, this came to £15.5 million.

Money Lessons – financial education for school children

Money Lessons is a Nationwide initiative that offers financial education to school children in Key Stages 2 and 3 (years 3 to 9, ages 7 to 14). It aligns with the Financial Education Framework and supports the Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) and Citizenship elements of the Department for Education (DfE) National Curriculum.

Money Lessons modules can be downloaded and used by teachers, and those working with local schools to run workshops and classes.

Supporting volunteering and fundraising

We encourage our colleagues to support the charities close to their hearts through fundraising and volunteering. And we will be encouraging them to support Fairer Futures too.

We do this by:

  • giving colleagues up to 14 hours of paid leave each year to support a charitable cause

  • matching fundraising for UK registered charities, up to £100 per colleague.

  • offering grants of up to £10,000 that colleagues can apply for in order to support a charity close to their heart.

  • enabling colleagues to donate the last pence of their monthly pay to one of our charity partners each month.

  • enabling colleagues to donate money directly from their salary to any UK registered charity.

  • having a network of Social Impact leads who encourage teams and individuals to fundraise, volunteer and raise awareness of our charity partners.
