Our neighbourhood of 239 homes is creating a new movement in housing.
Going back to our roots
Nationwide may not be the first name on your mind when listing developers. But bringing people together to build better quality homes was how we got started. And ensuring everyone has a place fit to call home is still important to us.
That’s why we’re sponsoring a project to test how quality, community focussed homes can be built without taking a profit.
Investment in our hometown, Swindon
Working with Swindon Borough Council, we selected a derelict brownfield site. It was a site other developers didn’t consider viable to build on. As project sponsors we set ourselves the task of creating a new neighbourhood of 239 homes. A place where younger generations could lay down their roots, families could grow together and older people could stay through later life.
Working hand-in-hand with local communities
We believe Oakfield’s neighbours understand what they need to create a thriving community. Which is why we’ve worked closely with local people – giving everyone the opportunity to make their voice heard. And have a genuine influence throughout our planning and design process.
Homes that are good for people, in more ways than one
Oakfield’s homes have been built with a real focus on energy efficiency. They have:
- an EPC A rating
- solar panels to generate electricity
- air source heat pumps instead of gas boilers.
The streets have been designed to prioritise pedestrians and cyclists. Many of our homes come pre-wired if residents would like to install an electric car charger. And our onsite car-club means local people can borrow a car if they need one.
71 homes (30%) will be available as Affordable Rent and Shared Ownership. This is through our housing association partner, GreenSquareAccord.
