What is The Big Nationwide Thank You?

On 1 October 2024, we completed the purchase of Virgin Money, becoming an even stronger force in UK banking. This was made possible by the financial strength Nationwide members, like you, helped us build.

To say thank you, we are sending you and over 12 million of our Nationwide members £50 each as part of The Big Nationwide Thank You. Over £600 million in total.

  1. Over 12 million members will receive a payment

  2. £50 will be paid to each eligible member

  3. Over £600 million in total given back to members

How you will get your £50 payment?

You don't need to do anything. How we pay you the £50 will depend on the type of account you have with us.

Current account, instant access savings account or limited access savings account

If you have a current account with us, we will firstly try and pay the £50 into that account.

If you don't have a current account with us, we will pay it into any of your instant access accounts. If you only have a limited access account with us, we will pay it into that account.

We will pay into a joint account if you don't have a sole account with us. You should receive payment by 30 April 2025. You will still need to be a Nationwide member when we make the payment to receive it.

Cash ISAs, Fixed Rate Bonds, Child Trust Funds, Junior ISAs or accounts where the money is held in trust

We cannot make payment into these types of savings accounts. We will send the £50 payment to you by cheque instead. This will be sent by 14 May 2025 to the address we hold for you. You will still need to be a Nationwide member when we are due to send the cheque.

“The Big Nationwide Thank You is our way of recognising the role our members have played in building our financial strength to make our purchase of Virgin Money possible.”

Is this different to Nationwide Fairer Share?

Yes, The Big Nationwide Thank You is in addition to the Fairer Share Payment we made last year.

We would like to make another Fairer Share Payment this year. This will depend on how we perform financially. We'll announce our decision when we publish our results for the 2024/25 financial year.
