Making a life insurance claim

  1. Contact Legal & General

    You’ll need to give them:

    • the policy number
    • the name of the person who has died
    • the death certificate
    • your name and relationship to the person who has died
    • the name of the legal next of kin (if known).
  2. Claims assessed

Your case handler will let you know if they need any further information or documents.

Depending on the type of policy and the circumstances of the death they may need to request:

    • information from the doctor or coroner
    • legal documents.
  3. Payouts

Once valid claims have been approved, full payments are made within 3 days.

If there is a delay in paying out the full claim, an advance payment of up to £10,000 can be made, That’s the Legal & General Funeral Payment Pledge.

Funeral Payment Pledge

Unexpected costs are an unfortunate part of the bereavement process. And can make a stressful time worse. So, as part of your life insurance policy, Legal & General offer to pay part of the claim early.

Up to £10,000 can be advanced on any valid life claim to cover the cost of a funeral. This will ensure that you can make the necessary arrangements without delay.

If you make an Funeral Payment Pledge claim, the money will be paid directly to the funeral director.
